Jackson State No Problem For Unbeaten Texas Southern

Southern def Mississippi Valley State 79-55

BATON ROUGE, La. — Tre Lynch scored 23 points and led four players into double figure scoring as hot-shooting Southern cruised to a 79-55 win over Mississippi Valley State in a Southwestern Conference game Monday night.

Southern (8-12, 5-1) shot 51.6 percent from the floor as a team, knocking down 32 of 62 attempts from the field, including just 6 of 19 from distance.
The Delta Devils (2-16, 1-4) fell behind by 13 points at the end of the first half and never gained ground in the second.
Adrian Rodgers added 15 points for Southern and Trelun Banks added another 13.
Jordan Washington and Isaac Williams each scored 14 points to lead Mississippi Valley State, which shot 31.3 percent from the field, connecting on 21 of 67 shots, including just 1 of 13 from beyond the arc.

Texas Southern def Jackson State 67-54

HOUSTON — Madarious Gibbs scored 19 points and Texas Southern built a big lead, held off a late charge and beat Jackson State 67-54 on Monday.

Texas Southern (8-10, 5-0) raced out to a 12-4 lead behind Deverell Biggs’ 3-pointer just over four minutes in. A 9-0 run midway through the half extended the lead to 21-8 and Texas Southern led 38-21 at the break.
The lead reached 20 with 15:19 left on a pair of Malcolm Riley free throws. Jackson State got it to 10 with 4:31 left on Jaleel Queary’s jumper, but Texas Southern reeled off the next 11 points to wrap up the win.
Biggs finished with 13 points and a trio of three pointers for Texas Southern. Chris Thomas had 12 points and Riley added 10.
Jackson State (4-15, 2-4) was led by Kaven Bernard with 14 points while Derrell Taylor added 12 points and six boards.
Prairie View def Grambling State 74-60

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — Montrael Scott and Reggis Onwukamuche combined to score 31 points as Prairie View A&M out-shot Grambling State for a 74-60 victory Monday night.

Both teams shot 46 percent for the game, but the Panthers (4-14, 2/3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) launched 18 more attempts while taking advantage of 23 Grambling State turnovers which led directly to 28 points

Prairie View, which led by as many as 17, built a 15-point lead by halftime and maintained it through the final 20 minutes.

Scott finished with 16 points, knocking down 8 of 17 shots from the floor but going 0 for 6 from distance. Onwukamuche finished with 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Isiah Patterson was 5 of 6 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points to lead the Tigers (2-14, 0-6), but was the only shooter to reach double figure scoring.
