DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Quentin Brewer scored a career-high 20 points in Bethune-Cookman’s 58-56 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference loss to Hampton Saturday afternoon.
Ricky Johnson was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 11. Mikel Trapp scored six, and Travis Elliott had five points and eight rebounds.
Reginald Johnson scored 17 points to lead the Pirates, followed by Brian Darden with 12.
NCCU Cruises To 76-45 Victory Over SC State
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University won its 28th straight home game in convincing style on Saturday inside McDougald-McLendon Gym, handing South Carolina State a 76-45 defeat and providing NCCU head coach LeVelle Moton with his 100th career victory.
Jordan Parks recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and a season-high 14 rebounds to spark NCCU (11-5, 3-0 MEAC). Three other Eagles scored double figures as Anthony McDonald netted a game-high 18 points, Nimrod Hilliard added 15 points and eight assists, and Jeremiah Ingram came off the bench for 14 points.
NCCU returns to play on Monday, Jan. 12 against Savannah State at 7:30 p.m. inside McDougald-McLendon Gym.
Gaston, Short Dominate in 75-51 Win over Florida A&M
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The junior duo of RaShid Gaston and Jeff Short turned in a dominating performance in Norfolk State’s 75-51 win over Florida A&M in a men’s basketball conference matchup on Saturday evening at the Al Lawson Center.
Gaston totaled 26 points on 11-of-13 shooting and a career-high 16 rebounds, while Short hit 8-of-11 overall and finished with 21 points. The victory kept NSU in first place in the MEAC at 3-0 while pushing the Spartans’ overall record to 10-8.
Junior D’Shon Taylor added nine points for NSU. Jorge Rosa and Quentin Bastian led the way for FAMU with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Spartans earned their biggest win over the Rattlers in six years.
