RALEIGH, N.C. – Guard Jeanne-Marie Wilson (Jr./Temple Hills, MD) totaled 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals, and guard Regime McCombs (Jr./Greenville, SC) added 15 points as Saint Augustine’s University pulled away late to defeat Barton College 68-59 in a non-conference women’s basketball contest at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday.

The win was the third straight for the Lady Falcons, who upped their record to 5-3 overall. Barton fell to 2-8 overall.

Forward Terri Jacobs (Jr./McDonough, GA) added 12 points, 10 rebounds and two steals for the Lady Falcons, who went on a 16-6 run in the final 4:47 to overcome a 53-52 deficit. The Lady Falcons connected on eight consecutive free throws including six by Jacobs in the final two minutes to seal the win.

Defense keyed the Lady Falcons’ game-winning spurt. The Lady Bulldogs committed five of their 28 turnovers during that stretch which the Lady Falcons converted into eight points. The Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Bulldogs 27-14 in points off turnovers for the contest.

Their defensive pressure and free throw shooting (16 of 23 for 70 percent) carried the Lady Falcons on a night when they shot 38 percent from the floor. Barton shot 40 percent but made 12 of 18 free throws for 67 percent.

Guard Porscha Walton (Jr./Chesterfield, VA) added eight points, five rebounds and four assists for the Lady Falcons. Forward Briana Arrington (Sr./Richmond, VA) added six points on 3 of 4 shooting off the bench and guard LaKiya Rouse (Jr./Greensboro, NC) added four points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Alexis Johnson and Tiffany Webster scored 17 points and 16 points, respectively, for the Lady Bulldogs. Shatisha Dukes added nine points.

McCombs scored 10 first-half points as the Lady Falcons led 33-29 at halftime. Johnson sparked the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points.

McCombs drilled a three-pointer for a 33-21 Lady Falcons’ lead with 2:32 left before halftime. The Lady Bulldogs ended the half with eight consecutive points to close within four at the break.

The Lady Falcons built another working margin in the beginning of the second half. Wilson’s layup gave the Lady Falcons a 39-31 lead, but the Lady Bulldogs went ahead 46-45 on a three-pointer at the 10-minute mark. The lead changed hands four times before the Lady Falcons went ahead for good on McCombs’ layup at the 4:47 mark. Her basket started the game-deciding run which led the Lady Falcons to victory.
