Alabama def. ARKANSAS PINE-BLUFF, 71-27
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Arkansas Pine Bluff fell to 2-7 as the suffered a 71-27 loss to University of Alabama (9-4) at the Coleman Coliseum on Tuesday morning. The Crimson Tide limited the Lady Lions to only 11 points in the first half. Alabama put up 16 unanswered points to start the game off, holding UAPB scoreless for nearly five minutes. Pine Bluff scored their first basket from a short jumper by Mollie Campbell. Briana Hutchen led the way for University of Alabama with a game-best 15 points and nine boards. Diamond Richardson scored 10 points and added seven rebounds to lead the Lady Lions. As a team, they finished shooting 12.0 percent from the field, 22.2 from the three-point line and 68.4 percent from the charity stripe. Arkansas Pine Bluff will return to the court Friday, Dec. 19 as they face UAB at 7 p.m. at the Bartow Arena.
Lipscomb def. JACKSON STATE, 72-44
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ayanna Hardy-Fuller led the Lady Tigers with a 14 point, 10 rebound double-double effort but it was not enough to defeat Lipscomb as Jackson State fell 72-45 Tuesday night. Hardy-Fuller, a redshirt senior forward, went 3-5 from the floor and 8-11 from the free-throw line in 29 minutes of play. Dominique Brothern added 11 more points and recorded at game high six steals. The Lady Tigers scored the first two points of the game but were unable to hold on to that lead. Shooting 17.9 percent from the floor and 57.1 from the free-throw line, JSU entered half-time trailing 40-14. In the second half, JSU was more competitive increasing field goal percentage to 25.0 and its free throw percentage to 66.7 percent scoring 31 points to Lipscomb’s 32 points. Sara Bliss led the Lady Bison in scoring with 17 points and Ashley Southern led in rebounding with a game high of 9 rebounds. The Lady Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 20 when they take on Northwestern State in their first home game of the season. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. in the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assemble Center located on the campus of Jackson State University.
Michigan State def. ALCORN STATE, 77-41
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Norianna Haynes had a game-best 16 points but it wasn’t enough for the Lady Braves as they fell 41-77 to No. 18 Michigan State Tuesday night. Haynes fouled out only playing 27 minutes. The Spartans went on a 7-0 run in less than three minutes. Alcorn scored their first basket with a layup by Angelic Wilson-Reid. At the end of the first half, the Lady Braves were only down eight points, 30-22. But Michigan State would come back in the second half dominating, scoring the first nine points. They took their biggest lead of 39 points with 3:47 remaining, 72-33. Aerial Powers led the Spartans with 23 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. The Lady Braves will host Louisiana-Lafayette Friday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m.
