North Carolina A&T rallies to down Davidson in overtime

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team overcame a 14-point second-half deficit to beat Davidson 62-57 in overtime Tuesday night at Belk Arena. Eboni Ross led the Aggies with 17 points and 16 rebounds on 13-for-20 shooting from the free throw line. Christina Carter added eight points and three assists and freshman Michelle Fitzgerald added seven points and nine rebounds.

The Aggies (5-2) struggled from the floor all night, shooting just 27 percent. As a result, the Wildcats (3-4) led for the first 37 1/2 minutes of the game. Mackenzie Latt’s jump shot with 8:08 remaining in the game gave Davidson its biggest lead at 48-34. But thanks to the Aggies full-court pressure and Ross free throws the Aggies were able to end regulation on a 16-0 run. Carter gave the Aggies their first lead of the game, 50-48, on a 3-pointer from the elbow with 2:22 remaining. A&T guard Dana Brown had a chance to put the game away but missed her 3-pointer.

Dakota Dukes capitalized on the long rebound by scoring in transition to tie the game and send it into overtime tied at 50. A&T had no problem making shots in overtime. The Aggies hit four out of their first five shots, including a 3-pointer from Fitzgerald to take a 59-50 lead.  Davidson was able to fight back to within four thanks to missed free throws by A&T, but Ross put the game away with a free throw with eight seconds remaining.

The Aggies begin conference play 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6 at Howard.
