Jackson State, Ivy Beats Arkansas Pine-Bluff In Overtime

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – La Montiez Ivy scored from 15 yards out to lift Jackson State to a 33-30 overtime victory over the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Football team, here Saturday night at Golden Lion Stadium.

UAPB erases a 21-7 point deficit as they tied the contest at 24-24 on a four-yard TD pass to Marvante King from Benjamin Anderson with 3:15 left in the third quarter, capping a 16-play, 76-yard drive by the Golden Lions.

On the opening drive of the fourth quarter, Ryan Deising connected on a 37-yard field goal to give a JSU a 27-24 lead with 11:25 remaining in the fourth quarter.

On UAPB’s ensuing drive, Tyler Strickland knotted the contest at 27 on a 21-yard field goal with 7:17 remaining in the fourth quarter, capping a seven-play, 75-yard drive by the Golden Lions.

JSU struck first as Rakeem Sims scored on a 12-yard run with 10:31 to go in the first, giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead.

On their next possession, the Golden Lions mounted a 14-play, 74-yard drive as they took a whopping 8:44 of the clock with Anderson scoring from 30 yards out to tie the contest at 7-7 with 1:49 left in the first quarter.

In the first quarter, the UAPB offense was on the field for 11:59, whereas JSU’s offense only held the ball for 3:01.

JSU closed out the first quarter with a 61-yard TD pass to Dan William from Ivy with 1:00 left in the first, giving the Tigers a 14-7 lead.

The Tigers made the score 21-7 as Kwame Bowens returned a Strickland blocked field goal for 60 yards with 9:28 to go in the second.

UAPB closed out the first half as they scored on back-to-back possessions on a 41-yard field goal by Strickland with 5:41 left and a 28-yard TD pass to Willie Young from Anderson with 37 second left in the second quarter as the Golden Lions went into the break trailing JSU 21-17.

JSU (3-2, 1-1 SWAC) was led by Montiez as he finished the contest with 85 yards rushing on nine attempts with one TD and passed for 172 yards as he completed 16 passes in 20 attempts with one TD as he finished the contest with 257 yards of total offense.

Williams led the JSU receivers with 63 yards on three receptions with one TD, while the Tigers had three players to finish in double-digit tackles. Ariane McCree led the Tiger defense with 15 tackles (7 solo, 8 asst), followed by Preston Hughes with 10 (7 solos, 3 asst) tackles and Cornelius Henderson with 10 total tackles (1 solo, 9 asst).

UAPB (1-3, 0-2 SWAC) was led by Anderson as he rushed for 135 yards on 25 carries and passed for 256 yards by completing 19 passes in 33 attempts with two TDs and one interception for 391 yards of total offense.

Willie Young led the Golden Lions receivers with 101 yards on six receptions with one TD, followed by King with 86 yards on four receptions with one TD.

Defensively UAPB was led by Willie Duncan as he finished the contest with 12 tackles (2 solos, 10 asst), and 0.5 tackles for loss, followed by Antonio Jenkins with eight tackles (1 solo, 7 asst).
