Chris Johnson, WR, Jackson State (6-3, 205, Sr., Jackson, Miss.)

Caught five passes for 160 yards and a touchdown.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jon Johnson, DE, Prairie View A&M (6-0, 240, Sr., Houston, Texas)

Tallied ten tackles (seven solo) along with one tackle for loss, three hurries and a sack.

Newcomer of the Week
Frank Warren, RB, Grambling State (6-0, 185, Fr., Pleasant Grove, Ala.)

Warren finished with 17 carries for 92 yards and two touchdowns … averaged 5.4 yards per carry with a long of 32 yards.

Specialist of the Week
Tim Manuel, P/K, Grambling State (5-11, 225, Sr., New Iberia, La.)

Averaged 43.1 yards on seven punts with a long of 51 yards while placing three inside the 20-yard line … also nailed a 45-yard field goal and made three PAT kicks.

DeMichael Dizer, Grambling State – three pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, eight tackles
Marcellus Speaks, Jackson State – 11 tackles, one tackles for loss
Brett Bennett, Jackson State – five punts, 46.4 per punt average, long of 55
Donald Babers, Prairie View – 119 all-purpose yards, one rushing touchdown
Pedro Ventura, Prairie View A&M – four punts, 43.0 per punt average, long of 55
Zach East, Prairie View A&M – 10 tackles (four solo), 1.5 tackles for loss
Nate Hughes, Alcorn State – six receptions, 52 yards, two touchdowns
Lester Mosley, Alcorn State – nine tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss
Raymond Webber, Arkansas-Pine Bluff – six receptions, 109 yards, touchdown
Derrick Gray, Texas Southern – seven tackles, pass breakup
Rechard Johnson, Alabama State – 10 tackles (five solo)
Jay Peck, Alabama State – 23 carries, 108 yards, touchdown

    Congrats to this week’s SWAC players of the week. A SPECIAL congrats to JSU’s wide receiver, Chris Johnson, for scorching Southern’s defensive backs with 160 yards on just five catches.
