Offensive Player of the Week
Bryant Lee, QB, Southern (6-2, 195, So., Boutte, La.)

In a come-from-behind win over Tennessee State, Lee finished the game passing for a career-high 305 yards and four touchdowns (career high) completing 23-of-33 pass attempts.

Defensive Player of the Week
Malcolm Palmer, DB, Jackson State (5-11, 175, So., Autaugaville, Ala.)

Palmer totaled 12 total stops (seven solo), one sack, a forced fumble and a blocked kick against Mississippi Valley State.

Newcomer of the Week
Gary Chapman, LB, Southern (6-3, 218, So., Houston, Texas)

Chapman ended Saturday’s action against Tennessee State with 11 tackles (four solo) along with 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack and a forced fumble.

Co-Specialists of the Week
Eric Perri, K, Jackson State (5-8, 155, So., Miami, Fla.)

Perri connected on three field goals (27, 25 & 37) while going 5-for-6 on PAT attempts against Mississippi Valley State.

Alex Engram, P/QB, Alabama State (5-10, 200, Jr., Warren, Ohio)

In his first collegiate game as a punter, he averaged 42 yards on six punts – including a 54-yard punt to pin the Alcorn State offense at the 7-yard line late in the fourth period.

Jason Jones, Arkansas-Pine Bluff – 7 rec, 137 yds
Ulysses Banks, Alabama A&M – 183 all-purpose yards
Tim Turner, Arkansas-Pine Bluff – 17 tackles (10 solo)
Antonio Cooper, Alcorn State – 12 tackles (3 solo)

    If they go by total tackles to calculate defensive player of the week, then no one from Grambling stands a good chance to win. I don’t think I saw but maybe 3 individual tackles all game. Everything was gang tackling by the GSU defenders. On the few passes that Luke was able to complete, most of the tackles on those were more than one player.
