Virginia Union put an unceremonious halt to Bowie State’s three-game win streak, leaving Bulldog Stadium with a decisive 48-7 victory.
The win marked Virginia Union’s fifth straight win over Bowie State, extending the longest win streak it has had over its CIAA Northern division rival.
This was also the Panthers’ largest margin of victory over the Bulldogs since 2023 (they won that game 52-3).
Since losing in their season opener against Lenoir-Rhyne, the Panthers have been on a tear, winning six straight contests to improve to 6-1 overall, including a perfect 5-0 conference record.
Panthers running back Travon Tensley posted his second straight 100-yard rushing game, finishing with 124 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown.
Backfield mate Ramon Brown reached the end zone twice, tallying 76 rushing yards on just seven attempts.
RJ Rosales had one of his most productive games of the season, completing 87% of his passes for 196 yards, scoring two touchdowns without an interception. In his past two games, Rosales has completed 22 of his last 24 pass attempts.
As dominant as the Virginia Union offense was, the defense was the true story of the game, limiting the Bulldogs to a season-low 137 offensive yards.
Bowie State could not get anything going on offense, going three-and-out on five of its first six drives, four of which ended with negative yardage.
Virginia Union’s quest for a fourth straight CIAA championship appearance remains intact, keeping pace with Johnson C. Smith and Virginia State, who all kept their conference records unblemished this weekend.
The Panthers now look forward to their homecoming contest next weekend against Shaw.
