The Texas Southern men’s basketball coach search will continue as school gets underway.
Terrance Harris of the Defender Network reported earlier Friday that TSU’s board of regents has rejected Seton Hall assistant Corey Lowery as the Tigers’ new men’s basketball coach.
Hall, who has previous experience as an HBCU coach, was reportedly set be hired as the new Tigers coach, according to a report by CBS Sports College basketball insider Jon Rothstein.
The concern is that Lowery may have violated NCAA rules by contacting Texas Southern players before being hired, as well as possible resume concerns.
The Tigers have been without a coach since Johnny Jones resigned to assist Will Wade at LSU earlier this summer.
The TSU athletic director spot has been filled on an interim basis by longtime SWAC administrator Paula Jackson since Kevin Grainger was accused of sexual assault last June. He was officially terminated this past March.
Jackson State athletic director Ashley Robinson is still very much a candidate for the same position at TSU, which will be voted on this coming Wednesday August 19.
