Ashley Robinson’s work as Jackson State athletic director has caught the attention of another SWAC school.
According to Terrance Harris of the Defender Network, Texas Southern is actively pursuing Robinson to fill the AD role at the University.
Former TSU AD Kevin Grainger was fired this past March following a sexual assault accusation that is still under investigation. Veteran SWAC administrator Paula Jackson has been filling in as interim AD at Texas Southern.
Robinson took over as JSU athletic director in 2018 following a five-year stint at Prairie View. Some of his biggest moves have been coaching hires, including Deion Sanders leading the Tiger football team to two straight SWAC championships and Celebration Bowl appearances, as well Jackson native Tomekia Reed, who guided the JSU women’s hoops team to five consecutive SWAC regular season titles and three NCAA tournament appearances.
Robinson was also pursued for PV’s open athletic director position in 2023, but chose to stay at Jackson State instead.
