THE GAME
*ASU has won five consecutive games since opening the season dropping their first two games.
*This is the 76th meeting between the two schools with AAMU leading the series 38-35-2.
*This is the seventh time Reggie Barlow has faced Alabama A&M as the Hornets head coach…He holds a 2-4 record against the Bulldogs.
*The longest winning streak in the series for AAMU is eight games (1980-87); the longest streak for ASU is 10 games (1924; 29-32; 40-41; 45-47).
*Alabama State has won two of the last three games of the series, including last season’s 31-13 win.
*Last season ASU piled up 462 yards of total offense and held AAMU to only 261 yards on their way to the win…Isaiah Crowell rushed for two touchdowns and quarterback Greg Jenkins threw for 264 yards and a score while running for another one.
Throw the Record Books out the Window:
The old saying when rivals meet is throw the record book out the windows and that is never more evident than when ASU and AAMU meet…Both teams are good at running the ball and both are good at stopping the run, so it could be a
coin flip type of game.
Game Features Four of the Top Running Backs in the SWAC:
With both teams having solid running games, it is obvious the game will have some of the top runners in the SWAC…ASU’s Isaiah Crowell leads the conference and Malcolm Cyrus is fifth, while AAMU’s Barrington Scott is fourth and Brandon Eldemire is ninth.
AAMU’s Defense vs. ASU’s Offense:
AAMU has one of the SWAC’s top defenses..They are second in scoring defense (21.4 ppg) and lead the SWAC in total defense giving up only 278.0 yards per game…The question is will ASU’s offense which scores 38.3 points per game and averages 478 yards of total offense per game be able to get into the end zone against AAMU’s capable defense.
