Ryan Clark’s run at ESPN has ended, with multiple reports saying the network parted ways with the longtime NFL analyst on Monday during a round of layoffs.
At the same time, Clark is still scheduled to serve as a host at MEAC Football Media Day on Tuesday, and that program is set to stream at noon on ESPN+
According to The Athletic, Clark was informed of the decision while appearing on “NFL Live,” and he did not finish the broadcast.
The reporting suggests the timing became awkward because ESPN initially planned to tell Clark later, but concerns that the news would leak prompted the network to act sooner.
That led to Clark’s abrupt exit from the show, which several outlets described as a rare and uncomfortable on-air departure. The details have not been publicly explained by ESPN beyond the reported personnel move.
Even with the ESPN breakup, Clark remains booked for MEAC Football Media Day on Tuesday as part of “The Pivot,” one of the most influential sports podcasts in the country. Hosted by former NFL standouts Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor, the show’s presence adds a new layer of visibility and storytelling to an already high-profile day in HBCU football.
“It is a tremendous honor to return to M&T Bank Stadium… and to be joined by The Pivot,” MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills said when the partnership was announced this spring.
Clark had been one of ESPN’s most visible NFL analysts for years, making regular appearances on studio shows and special coverage.
For Clark, the move closes one chapter while his media presence continues through other platforms and Tuesday’s MEAC assignment.
As for the MEAC, its preseason kickoff event now — with no doing of its own — gains a little bit more national attention with Clark fallout casting a shadow that will be hard to ignore.
