Grambling State head football coach Mickey Joseph wasted little time in Wednesday’s SWAC Media Day availability answering questions regarding their offensive coordinator position, which opened up after Shyrone Carey’s departure earlier this week.
“He chose family and I wish I chose family in my younger career,” Joseph explained. “The playbook doesn’t change. They didn’t know who was calling the plays for us last year and they won’t know who’s calling them this year.”
One name that has surfaced in Joseph’s coordinator search is legendary Grambling quarterback Bruce Eugene, who is currently an offensive staff member of Syracuse University’s football program.
“He’s one of the people we’re talking to; we have three or four people we’re talking to,” Joseph said. “We’ll have this thing cleared up by next week for sure.”
The next Tiger offensive coordinator will have their work cut out for them as Grambling, 7-5 in 2025 and picked second this season in the SWAC West by conference pollsters, ranked near the bottom of the SWAC in nearly every offensive category last season.
