The MEAC’s 55th football season ended the same way the 54th ended, with South Carolina State claiming the league’s title, their 20th overall.
In between, each MEAC school had at least one win worth mentioning, so let’s break down each team’s best 2025 victory effort.
Delaware State: 70-23 over Southern Connecticut State
Homecoming is always supposed to be a good time and even on a rainy, gray October afternoon, the Hornets supplied all the sunshine the DSU faithful needed in tying a school record with 70 points on the helpless Owls.
Delaware State rushed for a team record 608 yards, with James Jones collecting 158 yards on three carries, including a 90-yard touchdown run. Reserve quarterback Jayden Sauray also scored on an 81-yard touchdown dash as the Hornets never trailed in finishing their non-conference slate with a 4-3 record.

Howard: 34-7 over Hampton
The Bison snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Pirates in convincing fashion last Sept. 20, earning the right to call themselves The Real HU for the time being.
The Bison defense held Hampton to a woeful 215 yards of total offense, 53 of those coming on a touchdown run after Howard was already up 34-0.
Morgan State: 35-28 over Norfolk State
In a season defined by close losses, the Bears found a way to end up on the right side of a comeback for their only MEAC (and Division I) win of 2025.
Quarterback Raymond Moore III threw for a touchdown and ran in the game-winner with 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter, helping Morgan overcome a 28-21 deficit to defeat the Spartans on Nov. 15.
Norfolk State: 34-31 over Virginia State (overtime)
Michael Vick’s first – and to date, only – win as a college head coach was another thriller between longtime rivals Norfolk State and Virginia State.
The Spartans trailed 23-10 and 31-24 in the fourth quarter, but battled back each time to force overtime, where freshman kicker Evan Helfrich’s 29-yard boot was the difference.
North Carolina Central: 62-20 over North Carolina A&T
The last four Aggie-Eagle classics have gone exclusively Central’s way, with 2025 being no different.
The Eagles scored 60 on North Carolina A&T for the second straight year, led by four touchdowns from running back Chris Mosley and nearly 750 yards of total offense.
South Carolina State: 40-38 over Prairie View A&M in the Celebration Bowl (four overtimes)
The first half of the 2025 Celebration Bowl was a disaster for South Carolina State.
The second half and the final score were divine.
The Bulldogs spotted the SWAC champion Panthers a 21-0 lead before clawing back three separate times to either tie or take the lead, with the winning conversion coming on a controversial swing pass to the right pylon that the officiating crew ruled good.
Regardless of that final play, SCSU’s second Celebration Bowl title showcased their toughness and resiliency in overcoming such a horrible start.
