One HBCU men’s basketball team will have some NBA experience on the coaching staff next season.
10-year NBA vet Bryant Stith, a local legend in Virginia, has joined Ivan Thomas’ staff at Hampton as associate head coach.
Stith was a three-time all-ACC pick at the University of Virginia before joining the Denver Nuggets. He started all 82 regular season games for the 1994 Nuggets, who upset the Seattle Supersonics in the Western Conference first round series, becoming the first 8 seed to beat a Number One seed.
Stith played for the Nuggets, Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers between 1992 and 2002, averaging 10 points and 3 rebounds per game.
He was a high school head coach in Virginia for 10 years before becoming an assistant at Old Dominion (2013-2022) and UNC Greensboro (2022-2026) before joining Hampton’s staff.
The Pirates finished 13-19 in 2025-26, losing to Towson 74-68 in the first round of the Coastal Athletic Association Tournament.
