The defending MEAC women’s basketball champions will hold onto that title for at least another day.
They will be joined in the tournament semifinals by another top 4 seed.
Norfolk State and Coppin State both had very little trouble in advancing to Friday’s MEAC women’s hoops quarterfinals; the Spartans suffocated Morgan State 69-43 while the Eagles overtook North Carolina Central 70-52.
The Spartans, three-time defending MEAC champions, trailed 2-0 before ending the first quarter on an 18-7 run and continued to build on their lead.
Anjanae Richardson led four NSU players in double figures with 18 points, also adding eight rebounds, four steals and three assists to her stat sheet.
Joining her in double digits were Da’Brya Clark (13 points), Jasha Clinton (12 points), and LeAire Nicks (10 points).

The Spartans (17-13) will face No. 2 Maryland Eastern Shore in Friday’s semifinals at 2 p.m.
In the battle of Eagles, Coppin State trailed North Carolina Central briefly before taking a 29-26 lead into halftime, then outscoring NCCU 19-11 in the third quarter.
MEAC Newcomer of the Year Khila Morris led Coppin with 17 points and sophomore forward Shanaii Gamble contributed a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
CSU (10-22) moves on to face top-seed Howard Friday in the day’s first semifinal game at 12 p.m.
