The Fayetteville State women’s track & field team kept its streak of dominance going, claiming yet another CIAA Indoor Championship.

This marks the sixth straight CIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship for the Lady Broncos, the longest of any team since St. Augustine’s claimed 14 straight from 1997-2010.

Fayetteville State racked up 131 to narrowly beat out Claflin, which finished in second with 122 points, and Winston-Salem State’s 112-point performance.

In an event, categorized by Claflin’s dominance in the individual sprinting events (57 combined points in the 100, 200, and 400) and Fayetteville State’s dominance in the distance events (64 combined points in the 800, mile, and 3000), field events proved to be a key separator.

While the Panthers had two of three athletes finish in the top three in triple jump (Jhnyia Knuckles, first; Morgan Coverson-Springs, third), it was not enough to offset the Broncos’ production in the field events, getting outpointed 40-24.

In addition to their Indoor Track & Field streak, Fayetteville State has also won the last eight CIAA Women’s Cross Country Championships, the second-longest run in conference history (St. Augustine’s won 10 straight from 1980-1989).
