Arkansas-Pine Bluff continued its midseason surge Monday night, extending its winning streak to five games with an 84–63 victory over Jackson State.

“I’m proud of our guys for not letting up,” Golden Lions coach Solomon Bozeman said after the win. “We talked about winning every four-minute game, and I thought we did that in the second half. That’s why the lead went up to 20. That’s growth for us.”

The Golden Lions shot efficiently across the board, hitting 51 percent from the floor, including 45 percent from three-point range, and 81 percent from the free-throw line. Bozeman credited those numbers to his team’s discipline and unselfishness.

“We’re one of the top 30 teams in the country from the free-throw line,” Bozeman said. “We preach that — not settling for jumpers, attacking, and sharing the ball. Sixteen assists and only seven turnovers — that’s a great night for us.”

Guard Jaquan Scott provided an emotional lift for UAPB, scoring 18 points and grabbing eight rebounds after dealing with a dental issue that had put his availability in doubt.

“Jaquan’s a soldier,” Bozeman said. “He texted me this morning and said, ‘Coach, I’m ready to go.’ He didn’t even practice yesterday, but he came out and played big for us.”

The Golden Lions (11-13, 8-3 SWAC), who are sitting alone in second place in the conference behind leader Bethune-Cookman, have gotten contributions from guys like Keon Williams. He turned in another all-around performance with a double-double — 13 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, a steal, and a block — while helping the Golden Lions dominate the paint 36–22 versus Jackson State.

UAPB winning has been a group effort

“We’ve been stressing physicality, and I thought we showed that tonight,” Bozeman said. “Keon was great — scoring, distributing, and taking care of the basketball. That’s what we’ve been challenging him to do.”

Bozeman also praised the steady play of Quinon Williams and Trevon Payton, along with point guard Alex  Mirhosseini, who have helped lead the Golden Lions’ surge up the SWAC standings.

“Now we’ve got multiple guys who can handle the ball and make plays, and that makes us tough to guard,” he said.

The win keeps UAPB rolling as one of the hottest teams in the SWAC, steadily building momentum with consistency, chemistry, and confidence.
