Winston-Salem State continued its blistering start to the season with an 81–64 win over Bluefield State, stretching the Rams’ women’s basketball win streak to 12 straight.

Maia Charles fueled the victory with a dominant double-double, pouring in a season-high 30 points while ripping down 11 rebounds to pace the Rams.

She got plenty of help as Makayla Waleed and Ah’Kiyah Pye added 11 points apiece, giving WSSU a balanced scoring punch around its star.

Winston-Salem State (12-1) efficiently shot 32-of-58 from the floor and added 14-of-22 at the foul line, while also knocking down three shots from beyond the arc.

The Rams dominated the interior, scoring 52 points in the paint and securing 38 rebounds, repeatedly punishing Bluefield State around the rim.

WSSU defense sets the tone

Defensively, WSSU hounded the Big Blue into 25 turnovers, turning those miscues into 33 points the other way.

The Rams’ pressure produced 16 steals on the night, helping them maintain control from the opening quarter through the final buzzer.

The Rams broke the game open with a 9–0 burst to start the second quarter, pushing the margin to double digits and taking a 38–22 advantage into halftime.

In the third, Winston-Salem State used a 6–2 spurt and later a 14–3 run to build a commanding 63–39 lead heading into the fourth.

Pye’s layups helped keep the cushion safely above 20 points in the final period, and Bluefield State never cut the deficit below 15 the rest of the way.

With the win, the Rams improved to 12–1 overall and 3–0 in CIAA play, reinforcing their status as one of the league’s hottest teams.

Winston-Salem State now turns its attention to its next home test as it looks to keep the streak alive and extend its early-season surge into CIAA play.
