Score another big win for an HBCU women’s basketball program.
Sa’lah Hemingway’s basket with 3 seconds left lifted MEAC preseason favorite Howard to a 66-64 win at Big 12 member Cincinnati, just the fifth time in Bison history they have defeated an NCAA Group of 4 opponent.
The Bison (9-5) and Bearcats engaged in a back-and-forth battle that was tied when Cincinnati guard Reagan Jackson nailed a three-pointer with 15 seconds left. Jackson was fouled in the act but could not convert the free throw, leaving the game knotted at 64.
Howard had a possession underneath their basket with 5 seconds left. Freshman guard Ariella Henigan found Hemingway in stride for a layup for the winning points.

Cincinnati’s last attempt fell short, and Howard came away with another solid non-conference win.
Zoe Stewart led the Bison with 18 points, while Zennia Thomas recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
So far this season, the Bison have wins over Big East member Providence, George Mason and Coastal Athletic Association members Elon, Monmouth and Hampton.
Howard was picked to win the MEAC by preseason pollsters and if their non-conference showing is any indication, they’ve earned that designation.
