Michael Vick’s first season in charge at Norfolk State ended with another reminder of how far his rebuilding project has to go.
The Spartans fell 44-15 to Howard on Saturday, closing a 1-11 campaign marked by a 10-game losing streak and continued growing pains.
Howard (5-7, 2-3 MEAC) used a 23-point second quarter to take control and hand Norfolk State its latest lopsided defeat, outgaining the Spartans 434-323.
Quarterback Tyriq Starks threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns, while Anthony Reagan Jr. totaled 162 all-purpose yards and three scores as the Bison snapped a three-game skid.
Norfolk State showed its usual flashes, including 96 rushing yards on 12 touches from running back Kevon King, but again struggled to keep pace after halftime and finished winless in conference play at 0-5 for the first time since 2003.

The lone victory of Vick’s debut season came back in Week 2, an overtime thriller against Virginia State, before injuries, inexperience, and a demanding schedule sent the Spartans into a season-long tailspin.

Norfolk State now turns entirely to the offseason, where roster development, recruiting, and a second year in Vick’s system will determine how quickly the Spartans can turn a bruising season into the foundation for a proper rebuild.
