Prairie View head coach Tremaine Jackson isn’t letting talk of a potential SWAC West title distract his team from the immediate task at hand.
With a matchup looming against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Jackson said his team’s attention remains squarely on performance and improvement rather than postseason implications.
“We don’t spend a lot of time talking about clinching the West,” Jackson said. “We’re just trying to get better. We’ve got a really good UAPB team coming in. Those guys have 11 interceptions, and Coach Hampton’s doing an extremely good job with them.”
The Panthers can clinch the SWAC West with a win. It would be the program’s third division championship since 2021.
However, Jackson emphasized that his group hasn’t yet reached its full potential, despite its 7-3 overall record and 5-1 conference record.
“We still have not played a complete football game yet,” he said. “I’m still waiting on us to play one. We’ve got a lot of little things we’ve got to clean up, and hopefully we can get those together this weekend.”
Prairie View continues to chase both consistency and the division crown, but Jackson insists progress remains the priority.
“We don’t have time to look ahead,” he said. “We’ve got a really good football team coming to town, and we’ve got to get ready for it. Hopefully, we achieve our goals in the end—but that only happens if we play well.”
