One HBCU’s victories over PWIs in men’s basketball shouldn’t be a surprise by now, but according to one former athlete, it was cause for alarm.

Defending SWAC champion Alabama State defeated host UAB 77-74 Tuesday night, which led to a tweet from former Blazer Jordan “Jelly” Walker.

“Na…who is on this team,” Walker posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “No disrespect to ASU, but lose to them? Smh this is horrible”

Na… who is on this team???????? No disrespect to ASU but lose to them???? Smh this is horrible https://t.co/Q479kqsZLW

— Jordan “Jelly” Walker (@jellyfam_j) November 12, 2025

One poster responded to Walker “The SAME Team that won their conference last year and got a win in the NCAA Tourney last year #BigBamaState” while others claimed Walker, who was a two-time all-Conference USA player at UAB, was being disrespectful.

Institutionalized “No disrespect to ASU but lose to them????” 🤣 you got bigger worries guy. https://t.co/OIEaYDtluq

The Hornets picked up their first win of the season after losing 83-63 to top-ranked Auburn to open the 2025-26 campaign.

Queens University transfer Asjon Anderson led ASU with 20 points and seven assists while Micah Simpson, a key reserve on last year’s team, added 18 points.
