As we enter the final weekend in the regular season in Division II HBCU football, we now know one-half of the championship picture in the CIAA and the SIAC.
The two-time reigning CIAA champion, Virginia Union Panthers, will have their chance to three-peat, claiming a spot in the title game with a historic win over Bluefield State.
Meanwhile, Albany State had to grind out a win over Savannah State to remain unbeaten in conference play and secure its spot in the SIAC championship game.
Each conference has two teams that enter the 11th and final week of the regular season with a chance to clinch a title berth. x
One of those teams is Johnson C. Smith, which avoided elimination by snapping an eight-game losing streak against Fayetteville State, a team that would have clinched a CIAA championship berth with a win in that contest.
