What Eddie Robinson Jr. said about injured quarterback Andrew Body

Alabama State played the entire second half of its 31-28 win over Prairie View without star quarterback Andrew Body.

The redshirt junior left the contest with 5:50 remaining in the second quarter after scoring his second rushing touchdown of the game against the Panthers.

Following the score, Body went straight to the medical tent on the sideline to be examined. He was later spotted on the sideline in street clothes, wearing a sling on his right arm.

Te’Sean Smoot, the Hornets’ backup quarterback, finished the game for Alabama State.

Coach Eddie Robinson Jr. gave an immediate postgame update on Body’s condition, noting: “We don’t know the extent of the injury. Hopefully, he will be back this year, but just very proud of the guys regardless, and a lot of respect for Prairie View and what they’re doing.”

Before his exit, Body went 5 of 7 passing for 79 yards, and had five rushes for 29 yards and two touchdowns.

Without reading too much into Robinson’s comments, especially without an official diagnosis of Body’s injury, it appears that the Hornets’ starting quarterback could be unavailable for some time.

However, it’s too early to tell, although the “hopefully, he will be back this year” statement leaves uncertainty about Body’s status for the next game or even the following weeks moving forward.

Body missed all of last season — after just one game — with a shoulder injury. Robinson was excited to have the dual-threat QB fully healthy again, and Body established himself as statistically the best quarterback in the SWAC.

He leads the SWAC in passing (2,112 yards), TD passes (24), and is third in rushing yards (708) for the season.
