Students at Jackson State University received an unexpected guest on Tuesday.
Rapper and cultural icon Snoop Dogg made a surprise appearance during a panel discussion on HIV awareness.
The event, part of GLAAD’s “Generation Z and HIV: Human Issue. Southern Solution. An HBCU Tour,” brought together health advocates and students for a conversation on HIV prevention, stigma, and representation in media.
GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, hosted the session as part of its mission to engage communities across the South on HIV education.

Snoop Dogg joined the discussion for a fireside chat with Darian Aaron, GLAAD’s Director of Local News for the U.S. South. The two discussed LGBTQ representation in media and the ongoing impact of HIV within the music industry.
Advocates from across Mississippi also shared critical information on prevention and harm reduction, emphasizing the continued need for education and access to treatment in Black communities.
“HIV in Black communities is far from over, and Black people in the South, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, or number of total partners, remain at disproportionate risk,” Aaron told WJTV.
Aaron said the tour will help inform students with essential knowledge about HIV, including that it is preventable.
