The famous Howard homecoming festivities now includes a memorable win at Greene Stadium.
Sophomore running back Anthony Reagan Jr.’s 25-yard touchdown dash on the Bison’s first play in overtime wrapped up a 33-27 win over Morgan State, snapping a three-game losing streak.
Howard (4-4, 1-0 MEAC) trailed 21-14 when reserve quarterback Ja’Shawn Scroggins scrambled seven yards to tie the game at 21 early in the fourth quarter. Both teams traded failed possessions until the Bears’ Jason Collins Jr. scooted 18 yards to put Morgan (3-5, 0-1 MEAC) ahead 27-21 with 3:24 left in regulation.
The Bison responded, using both Scroggins and starting quarterback Tyriq Starks on the game-tying drive. Starks capped a 12-play, 81-yard drive with a six-yard toss to Breylin Smith to even the game at 27.
In overtime, Morgan State gained possession first, but the Bison defense tightened up and punter Alex Amaya, substituting for placekicker Sahr Gbundema, missed a 39-yard field goal.
That led to Reagan’s run to the end zone and a win for the Bison.
