Alabama State president Quinton Ross Jr. heard something during Saturday’s football game at Florida A&M that did not sit well with him.
Ross shared a written statement condemning comments by a FAMU Marching 100 announcer about the Honey Beez, ASU’s popular plus-sized dance troupe, who perform with the marching band.
Ross took the PA announcer to task for “distasteful comments regarding our beloved Honey Beez. While we recognize the spirit of competition. There is no place for disparaging or demeaning remarks directed at our scholars.”
The announcer, introducing the Alabama State band, said the Honey Beez were “the new face of Ozempic,” referring to the popular weight-loss drug.

Ross wrote that he spoke with Florida A&M president Marva Johnson and SWAC commissioner Charles McClelland to “express my displeasure with these short-sighted comments, and they have affirmed their agreement with my sentiments.”
Johnson, in a statement posted to social media on Saturday night, denounced the comments made by the announcer:

“Such comments are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” Johnson wrote in a portion of the letter.
