Texas Southern dropped to 0-3 on Saturday after a 31-7 loss, which second-year head coach Cris Dishman called disgusting and an effort he didn’t sign up for in postgame comments.
On Monday, reporter Perry Daniels asked Dishman during the SWAC coaches’ media call to provide more details about job expectations.
Daniels: “Help me comprehend the statement, ‘This isn’t what you signed up for.’ I don’t quite grasp the meaning of that.”
Dishman: “Well, Mr. Daniels, let me take it very slow. When coaches sign up to take a job, I didn’t sign up where our guys, our coaches, or even me, decide not to go out there and play good football. That’s what I was talking about. I wasn’t talking about anyone else but myself.” Now you got it, right?”
Dishman was pressed further by the reporter and responded with candor.
“Let me say this again, and I’m trying not to be rude,” Dishman responded. “My job title is head coach. I have to get our players to play each and every day, get them to study hall, get them to graduate. My main focus this year is to get 1000 APR points. My main focus this year is to win the (SWAC) West and win the SWAC. Those are our team goals, and our captains and seniors on our team have signed off on them. That’s what we’re fighting to do. Our preseason is over, and it’s time to get down to business.”
