Florida A&M‘s outstanding band, The Marching 100, was on hand at the U.S. Open Wednesday to honor one of their own on the anniversary of her barrier-breaking appearance at the grand slam event.
The famous band strutted its stuff to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Florida A&M alumna Althea Gibson breaking the color barrier in women’s tennis. Gibson won five grand slam titles, including two U.S. Open championships, during her illustrious career.
Returning for its fifth year at the 2025 US Open, HBCU Live celebrated the culture, legacy and pride of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

The Marching 100 appeared as a part of HBCU Live, an initiative and event aimed at honoring the legacy of Black Colleges. HBCU Live has been a part of the U.S. Open festivities for five years now.
