The questions about one HBCU football classic have seemingly been answered.
The Mississippi Valley State/Florida A&M contest scheduled for Oct. 4 in Atlanta was thought to be up in the air as Mercedes Benz Stadium did not have the game listed on the stadium’s events list website.
That has not stopped the organizers of the now named Georgia Football Classic from promoting the contest, which is still set for Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. EST.
“The Georgia Football Classic will be one of metro Atlanta’s most highly-anticipated events, providing
opportunities for everyone to enjoy the traditions and excitement surrounding the football game,” 100 Black Men of DeKalb County president Troy Vincent said in a statement released by Georgia Football Classic, LLC. “This event brings our communities together to celebrate and share in the culture, sportsmanship, and richness of metro Atlanta and its rich HBCU culture.”
The game was originally scheduled to be a home game for the Delta Devils, but a move to Atlanta was announced in early June. Few details were known until the GFC released a statement, originally reported by HBCU Gameday.
Tickets for the game will go on sale Tuesday Sept. 2 through the Georgia Football Classic website and Ticketmaster. The Classic will also feature FAMU’s Marching 100 and the Mean Green Marching Machine of Mississippi Valley State, in a VERZUZ-style format.
