Coppin State University’s women’s basketball team is gearing up for a groundbreaking season.
Two major dates are circled on their schedule: matchups against NCAA heavyweights South Carolina and Tennessee.
The Eagles, led by newly appointed head coach Darrell Mosley, will face the Tennessee Lady Volunteers on Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Food City Center in Knoxville.
This game marks the first-ever meeting between the programs. Tennessee, eight-time national champions and currently ranked seventh in the ESPN Way-Too-Early Top 25, presents a formidable challenge.
The Lady Vols will feature returning standouts Zee Spearman, Talaysia Cooper, and Ruby Whitehorn, along with high-powered transfers like Janiah Barker from UCLA and SMU’s top scorer Nya Robertson.
Coppin State enters the season with a new look. Mosley and his staff have quickly assembled a roster of eight Division I transfers, one post transfer from the NAIA, and five true freshmen, after only one player—Baltimore native Mickelle Lowry—returns from last year’s team.

The Eagles are coming off a run to the second round of the WNIT and have high hopes under Mosley’s leadership.
In addition to their date in Knoxville, the Eagles will also face South Carolina, another perennial powerhouse, at home on Jan. 18.
The Gamecocks, a staple of the national rankings, draw sellout crowds and present another significant test for the Eagles’ talent and tenacity.
