Mo Williams is in the process of making his mark as an HBCU men’s basketball coach, and now the Jackson native can add hall of famer to his list of achievements.
Williams, a 13-year NBA vet who led Jackson State to the SWAC championship game this past March, is a part of the 2025 class of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, with the ceremony set for Saturday Aug. 2.
Williams was a standout athlete at Murrah High School before attending the University of Alabama. He went on to play 13 seasons with the Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Portland Trail Blazers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Charlotte Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers, where he was an NBA All-Star in 2009 and closed his career out with an NBA title in 2016
Williams was previously head coach at Alabama State before accepting the JSU job in 2022. He is 45-54 in three seasons at Jackson State with a career record of 59-89.
