DeSean Jackson was one of the most talented offensive threats to hit an NFL field during his 15 seasons in the league.
The new Delaware State football coach is still quick to remind his players of that fact, as he did on Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson’s Nightcap show recently.
Sharpe, a Savannah State alum, asked Jackson, a former Pro Bowl receiver with the Philadelphia Eagles, what the hardest part of coaching players who may not be the same type of player he was.
Jackson’s answer was based in hard work.
“Everything I accomplished, it did come easy for me; if I would’ve put in the extra push-up, if I didn’t cut a rep, if I put the work into my craft, imagine how much better I would have been,” Jackson said. “I’m not allowing my players to miss that.”
Jackson expressed surprise at how much more work needs to be done before the “Coach Jac” era officially debuts Thursday night Aug. 28 at in-state rival Delaware.
“Some of these guys are taking five, six steps to get out of a break and I’m like ‘Bruh, who gave y’all scholarships?'”
Jackson went on to say that he does back up his words with action.
“Sometimes Ocho, I gotta put the cleats on and let them know I can still run a bench route, I can still run a curl and I can still take the top off,” he said. “We still do this, big dog.”
