Jackson State has landed a significant addition to its football roster.

Wide receiver Shemar Savage, a transfer from Prairie View A&M, committed to the Tigers after entering the transfer portal.

Savage, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound playmaker, brings both size and explosive ability to a Jackson State team that is already strong at the position.

Savage decided to join the Tigers from a productive stint at Prairie View A&M, where he amassed 862 receiving yards and established himself as one of the most physically imposing receivers in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

His combination of height, strength, and athleticism has made him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.

At the 2025 NFL HBCU Combine, Savage showcased his athletic prowess by clocking a 4.60-second 40-yard dash, leaping 31 inches in the vertical jump, and displaying solid agility in the shuttle and three-cone drills. His performance solidified his status as a legitimate NFL prospect.

But Savage’s journey to Jackson State is about more than just football. His life story is a testament to resilience and perseverance.

Overcoming a childhood marked by instability, abuse, and homelessness, Savage found refuge and purpose in sports. Multiple families, including the Hayes and Jones households, provided him with the support and structure he needed to thrive both academically and athletically.

Through adversity, Savage has emerged as a leader, using his experiences as motivation to excel on and off the field.
