One of college football’s oldest rivalries is getting a new stage.
The 2025 Morehouse-Tuskegee Classic, a game that has united generations of alumni and fans for over a century, will be played in Montgomery, Alabama, marking a significant shift for the storied matchup.
The annual clash between the Morehouse Maroon Tigers and the Tuskegee Golden Tigers, traditionally held in various locations — including Columbus, Georgia, and more recently Birmingham and Atlanta —will now take place at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl on October 4, 2025, according to WTVM.
A new chapter for historic rivalry
Tuskegee Athletic Director Reginald Ruffin expressed enthusiasm about the change. “Our fans have always been a huge part of our success, and we’re thrilled to bring the Classic to Montgomery. The city has a rich tradition of hosting HBCU football and we believe this move will create an even more electric atmosphere for one of the most anticipated games of the season,” Ruffin said.
Morehouse head coach Terance Mathis, entering his second season at the helm, echoed that sentiment. “The Morehouse-Tuskegee Classic is more than just a game—it’s a celebration of history, culture, and excellence. Playing in Montgomery gives both programs a chance to showcase our tradition on a bigger stage and reach even more alumni and supporters,” Mathis said.
“We’re ready to make history—again.”
The Classic, which dates back to 1902, has long been a highlight of the HBCU football calendar. Both schools see the move as an opportunity to strengthen ties with their extensive alumni bases in Alabama and across the Southeast.
Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO of Tuskegee University, emphasized the importance of the event. “Our student-athletes are powerhouses on and off the field, and the Classic is a platform to celebrate their achievements. Montgomery is the perfect setting to honor this legacy and inspire the next generation,” Brown stated.
