Winston Salem State University has hired Tierra Terry as head coach of its women’s basketball program, ushering in a new era.
Terry, who starred as a four-year member of the WSSU women’s basketball team and began her coaching career at her alma mater, returns with a wealth of experience.
“Winston-Salem State shaped me as a player and a person,” said Terry. “To come back and lead this program is a dream come true. I’m ready to build on our tradition and help our student-athletes succeed on and off the court.”
The university’s athletic leadership expressed strong support for Terry’s appointment.
“Coach Terry is the right leader to guide our women’s basketball program into the future, said WSSU athletic director Etienne Thomas.”Her track record of developing student-athletes and building winning teams speaks for itself. We’re excited to see the energy and expertise she brings back to WSSU.”
Terry said her coaching philosophy centers on discipline, teamwork, and academic achievement.
“My goal is to create a culture where our players are challenged to excel in every aspect of their lives,” she said. “We’ll compete at the highest level, but we’ll also make sure our student-athletes are prepared for life after basketball.”
With her deep ties to Winston-Salem State and a proven record of success, Terry’s return is seen as a pivotal moment for the Rams.
“We look forward to celebrating many championships under Coach Terry’s direction. The future is bright for WSSU women’s basketball,” Thomas said.
