With the 32nd overall pick of the 2025 WNBA Draft, a former Arkansas-Pine Bluff All-SWAC guard Zaay Green heard her name called by the Washington Mystics.
The former HBCU star becomes the first Golden Lion to ever be selected in the WNBA draft and the third SWAC player to be picked in the past four years.
Green transferred to Arkansas-Pine Bluff (UAPB) in 2021 after brief stints at the University of Tennessee and Texas A&M from 2016 to 2020.

She spent three seasons with the Golden Lions (she missed the 2022-2023 season due to injury) and was named to the All-SWAC team in her final year.
In 55 games at UAPB, Green averaged 16.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.1 steals before transferring to Alabama.
There she helped lead the Crimson Tide to an NCAA tournament opening round win over Green Bay, scoring 22 points on 60% shooting from the field.
Green is one of three guards selected by the Mystics in this year’s draft, along with first-round picks Sonia Citron and Georgia Amoore.
