Mississippi Valley State has hired Terrell Buckley, a former NFL player and XFL coach, as its next football coach.
“We’re going to build a culture of accountability, hard work, and belief – because winning starts with the standards we set and the mindset we bring every single day,” Buckley said in a statement.
Buckley, a native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, and a standout at Florida State has excelled both on the field and on the sidelines. His illustrious playing career includes winning the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top defensive back and earning a Super Bowl XXVI title with the New England Patriots.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Buckley as the new head coach of the Mississippi Valley State University football team,” said interim athletic director George Ivory. “He brings a winning mindset, a deep commitment to developing our student-athletes both on and off the field and a vision that aligns perfectly with our program’s values.”
As a coach, Buckley has been instrumental in developing talent at both the collegiate and professional levels, most recently serving as head coach of the Orlando Guardians in the XFL.
Dr. Jerryl Briggs, President of Mississippi Valley State University, expressed his enthusiasm.
“We look forward to the wealth of experience and knowledge Coach Buckley will bring to our football program and university.
Buckley replaces Kendrick Wade, who spent two seasons as Delta Devils coach.
