It did not take long for former Mississippi Valley State head coach Kendrick Wade to find a new job after being unceremoniously dismissed from the school at the end of the 2024 season.

The former Delta Devils head coach is making his way to the FBS ranks. The University of Memphis hired him as the team’s offensive assistant.

Wade has been the head coach of his alma mater for the past two seasons, leading the team to a 2-21 overall record.

This included a win over Florida A&M this season that handed the Rattlers their first home loss since entering the SWAC, snapping a 24-game win streak on their home field.

Before becoming head coach at Mississippi Valley State, Wade served as a wide receiver coach for two seasons from 2017 to 2018, which was his first collegiate coaching job.

He then proceeded to accept wide receiver coaching positions at Fort Valley State, Delta State, and Briar Cliff.

Wade is not the only former Mississippi Valley State head coach to be hired by an FBS program this offseason as Vincent Dancy, who joined Deion Sanders’ coaching staff when he was acquired by Colorado, was recently hired as the defensive end coach at Mississippi State.

Mississippi Valley State has since named defensive coordinator Kyle Williams as its interim head coach.
