Michael Vick’s contract as head football coach of Norfolk State has a few interesting notes and caveats included within, according to a report by Jami Frankenberry of the Virginian-Pilot.

Vick, who was hired last month to replace Dawson Odums as the Spartans’ football leader, will make $400,000 annually, according to a FOIA request granted to the Virginian-Pilot. The contract includes bonuses for MEAC championships ($10,000) and FCS playoff wins ($15,000), as well as a coach of the year bonus between $2,500 and $5,000.

Vick’s $400,000 annual salary is $160,000 more than what Odums signed for in 2021. Comparatively, Vick will be compensated a little less than the highest-paid FCS coach in Virginia, William & Mary head coach Mike London ($409,991).

Vick will also receive an automatic one-year extension if Norfolk State finishes in the top half of the MEAC standings in his third season, according to language in the contract. Vick will also be provided a “full-size sport utility vehicle.”
