Jackson State worked overtime –more than two — to stay unbeaten in SWAC

Romelle Mansel led five players in double figures as Jackson State defeated Alabama A&M 103-93 in triple overtime on Monday night.

Mansel finished with 23 points, five rebounds, and four steals before fouling out early in the third overtime. He finished the night shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and 8-of-11 from the free throw line. Keiveon Hunt finished the night with 18 points, five assists, and three steals, while Daeshun Ruffin scored 17 points, five assists, and four steals.

Jayme Mitchell Jr. finished with 16 points and six rebounds, and Tamarion Hoover 12 points in the win.

The Tigers needed a basket with under 15 seconds to play in regulation after falling behind 67-64. Hunt delivered with a three-pointer with 12 seconds remaining to tie the game and force overtime.

JSU did it again in the first overtime period with a lay-up from Ruffin to tie the game at 77-all to force a second overtime, and Mansel did the same thing in the second overtime with just three seconds remaining to tie the game at 88-all to force the third and final overtime.

Jackson State finished the night shooting 39 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 74.4 percent from the free-throw line.

AC Bryant led three Alabama A&M players in double figures with a game-high 39 points. Alabama A&M finished the night shooting 40.5 percent from the floor and12-of-32 percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 65.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Jackson State shot 26.5 (9-of-34) percent from the floor in the first half, including 18.2 (2-of-11) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 40.0 (2-of-5) percent from the free-throw line. In the second half, they shot 46.7 (14-of-30) percent from the floor and 54.5 percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the half shooting 68.8 (11-of-16) percent from the free-throw line.

Alabama A&M shot 30.3 percent from the floor in the first half, including 23.5 percent from beyond the arc. They did not attempt a free throw in the first half. The Bulldogs shot 58.3 percent from the floor in the second half and 60.0 (6-of-10) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 81.8  percent from the free-throw line.
