It is no secret that Michael Vick is a beloved figure in the Norfolk and Hampton Roads community.

But more than that, it’s the football and life journey Vick — a four-time Pro Bowl NFL quarterback — embarked on that made him the ideal candidate to lead Norfolk State, according to basketball legend Allen Iverson.

“He’s been through the ups and downs in life. Who’s not going to listen to Mike Vick?” said Iverson to WTKR News 3, who was in attendance at Monday’s introductory press conference. “Who’s not going to tell you what’s right and what’s wrong other than Mike Vick.”

“Who’s not going to listen to Mike Vick?” said NBA legend and Hampton native Allen Iverson after the press conference where Vick was introduced as Norfolk State football’s new head coach. “Who’s not going to tell you what’s right and what’s wrong?” https://t.co/52ne7qEK6g pic.twitter.com/WivmaUeTjC

Allen was referring to the highs of Vick going from a Heisman Trophy finalist at Virginia Tech, the No. 1 overall pick NFL sensation, to the low of being sentenced to 21 months in federal prison before returning to the pros to play and find post-football redemption.

“It’s a great story. It’s beautiful,” said Iverson. “It’s a beautiful day, not just what he has to offer to kids but to everybody.”
