A new coach will try to guide Delaware State football to its first winning season since 2012.
According to a report by Football Scoop, the Hornets have fired Lee Hull after two seasons as head coach.
The Hornets finished 2024 1-11 overall, with their only win, a 17-15 decision at Sacred Heart on August 31. The Hornets have not won a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game since November 5, 2022.
Hull, who led Morgan State to the MEAC title in 2014, was 2-21 in his two seasons at DSU. He replaced former Hornet standout and Super Bowl champion Rod Milstead, who finished the 2022 season 5-6.
Delaware State’s last winning record was under veteran coach Kermit Blount in 2012 when the Hornets recorded a 6-5 record. The Hornets last won the MEAC in 2007 and made their only FCS playoff appearance that season, losing 44-7 to the University of Delaware in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
Also Tuesday, the university announced that athletic director Alecia Shields Gadson would be moving on to “pursue other opportunities,” according to Kevin Tresolini of the Delaware News Journal.
Shields-Gadson had served as athletic director since 2021 and was a part of the sports administrative staff since 2016. She will be replaced by Tony Tucker, a local basketball legend who’s been at DelState as an associate vice president since last year.
