After taking a share of the Big South/OVC championship in an upset win over No. 11 Southeast Missouri State on Saturday night, Tennessee State is postseason-bound.
The Tigers (9-3, 6-2 Big South/OVC) are in the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2013 after learning on Sunday that it would face Montana next Saturday at 10:15 ET on ESPN2.
They are the third HBCU school to make the 24-team field in the last four seasons, joining Florida A&M (2021) and North Carolina Central (2023).
TSU is in this position after winning seven of its last eight games, culminating with a 28-21 win over SEMO that created a four-way for the conference championship. It was the first time the Tigers had clinched at least a share of a league title dating back to 1999.

“The three losses that we suffered were against the other two co-champions UT Martin and Tennessee Tech,” said head coach Eddie George. “Both games we could have won with a play or two here or there. The only game that we got exposed was early in the season against North Dakota State, which was the No. 1 team in the country.”
