One year after leading Prairie View A&M to the SWAC championship game, Bubba McDowell is reportedly out as head coach.
A report from John Brice of FootballScoop.com states that McDowell “formally parted ways” with the Panthers this weekend.
McDowell, a longtime NFL safety who was an all-pro in 1991 with the Houston Oilers, replaced Eric Dooley as head coach prior to the 2022 season.
In three seasons under McDowell, the Panthers earned a share of the SWAC West title in 2022 and earned the outright division championship last season before falling to Florida A&M in the conference championship game. The Panthers slipped to 5-6 this season and 3-4 in SWAC play.
McDowell’s record is 17-17 overall and 14-9 in SWAC games.
