Former South Carolina State defensive back Cobie Durant has been named the NFC Player of the Week for the first time in his NFL career.
Durant had an impressive performance in the Los Angeles Rams’ week seven victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, forcing two of the Raiders’ four turnovers, both leading to Rams touchdowns.
The former MEAC Defensive Player of the Year first recorded an interception, which turned into a 13-yard rushing touchdown on the Rams’ next offensive possession.

On the next defensive possession, he forced a strip sack, which was returned for a 33-yard scoop and a score.
He becomes the first former HBCU player to win an NFL Conference Player of the Week award since fellow South Carolina State alum Shaquille Leonard won the AFC Defensive Player of the Week in week 17 of the 2020 season.
Durant is in his third NFL season with the Los Angeles Rams, taking on an increased role as the team’s full-time starter at cornerback. He has played 85% of the Rams’ defensive snaps, the fourth-most on the team.
