Another HBCU football game has been impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Saturday’s game between Edward Waters and Tuskegee has been postponed “due to the impending inclement weather brought by Hurricane Helene,” Edward Waters officials announced on Wednesday.
“We here at Edward Waters University encourage everyone to prioritize safety during this time period,” the school said.
The game will now be played on Sunday at 4 p.m. EST at Edward Waters, a school located in Jacksonville, Florida.
Helene was upgraded Thursday morning to a Category 2 storm and is expected to be a major hurricane—meaning a Category 3 or higher—when it makes landfall in Florida, the Associated Press reported. Hurricane and flash flood warnings extended far beyond the coast up into Georgia. The governors of Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia have all declared emergencies in their states.
The SWAC opener between Alabama A&M and Florida A&M was also postponed with Hurricane Helene approaching.
