Jackson State has no trouble with Lane in 2024 home opener

Jackson State piled up 434 yards of total offense to pick up its first win of the season, 58-7, over Lane in the W.C. Gorden Classic at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.

Jackson State (1-1) scored early and often against the Dragons, scoring 58 unanswered before a late score with 3:01 on the clock by Lane (0-1) ended the shutout. The Tigers rolled up 184 yards rushing and 201 yards passing in the win, missing just six passes on the night.

Cam’Ron McCoy was named the game’s Offensive MVP after he rushed for 107 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just six carries and passed for another 100 yards (5-of-9) with two touchdowns.

Jacobian Morgan added 150 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns while finishing 9-of-11 on the night. Isaiah Spencer was targeted four times and had four receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Seven different receivers caught a pass on the night, with four hauling in touchdowns.

Defensive MVP Reid Pulliam led a Tiger defense that allowed just 106 total yards on the night from Lane. He finished with four tackles, including 1.5 for loss, while Tru Thompson, Joshua Nobles, and Jeremiah Williams each led the team with five. Esaias Guthrie recorded the team’s first interception of the season and also recorded three tackles.
